HURRICANE CREEK
North Alabama’s contribution to bluegrass music over the years has been exceptional. From former “Bluegrass Boys” Rual Yarbrough and Jake Landers, mandolin virtuoso Hershel Sizemore, fiddling legend Al Lester and the incomparable Claire Lynch, to modern day country-star-turned-bluegrasser Marty Raybon, the list goes on and on. In the spirit of these and other artists from the Heart of Dixie,
HURRICANE CREEK has carved out a niche of their own. They are regarded as one of the most entertaining bluegrass acts on the scene today. Based in Decatur, Alabama, their hard-driving stage presence, exceptional musicianship and great original material have been wowing audiences across the country for well over a decade.

The band is largely the product of lead singer and guitarist,
Stan Nelson. A native of the tiny farming community of Eva, Alabama, Stan has combined a lifelong love of all types of music from many influences. These influences range from his grandfather’s singing around home, to the great country artists he saw on TV as a child, to the classic rock and roll he enjoyed as a teenager. His distinctive and instantly recognizable lead voice is the nucleus around which the band is based. His boundless energy on stage is just a small reflection of how much he enjoys performing.

Stan’s wife Phillis, a native of Trinity, Alabama, added her contribution to the band by learning to play upright bass soon after they were married. Her solid timing, upbeat attitude, and business savvy have been a necessary part of the band since its inception.

Rounding out the lineup are two of Alabama’s most talented musicians. Playing banjo and singing tenor is Good Hope, Alabama’s own
Anthony Bailey. With a bluegrass background steeped in tradition, his picking style was perfected by 6 years of being on the road full-time with national touring artists David Davis and The Warrior River Boys. It never gets too fast or too hard-driving for this all-around picker.

Stacy Richardson handles mandolin playing and baritone vocals. Bluegrass music was always a part of this Greenhill, Alabama native’s life, with several family members also being accomplished musicians. With a distinctive playing style, and experience with several national touring bands, he was the perfect choice to round out the group. |
HURRICANE CREEK’s sound is all their own, and their entertainment factor is undeniable. Stage shows from Iowa to Louisiana, from Texas to Missouri and beyond have proven that their main purpose is to entertain the crowd wherever they might be. With high energy, hot picking, smooth harmony and a little bit of humor, entertaining, above all, is what they do best. At the conclusion of the show, you will see that they represent the State of Alabama and bluegrass music well. |
